Arthritis is the inflammation of one of more of your joints.
The most common symptoms of arthritis are:
- pain
- stiffness of joints
- swelling of and/or around joints
- decreased range of motion
The signs and symptoms can vary from the type of arthritis and by each individual. The most common type of arthritis is Osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is described as the wear-and-tear on joints. The wear-and-tear of the joints can occur over many years or by injury to a particular joint. The most common location for osteoarthritis to occur is the knee or hand at the base of the thumb. Another type of arthritis is Inflammatory Arthritis, which is a condition where the joint is being attacked by the bodies immune system causing swelling and destruction of the joint. The treatment of arthritis varies with each individual and type of arthritis. Common treatment options are:
- Analgesics, such as Tylenol to help reduce pain
- NSAIDS, such as Ibuprofen to reduce both pain and inflammation
- Prescriptions written by your Medical Doctor
- Physical Therapy
- Acupuncture
- Exercise to keep joints stretched and mobile
- Modify Diet to reduce inflammatory foods that trigger arthritis
